Cornet Ensemble

Eternal Song was written for Chris Jaudes, trumpet soloist and The Salvation Army’s New York Staff Band for a recording project in 2005. The composition is based on the song, Colne. It features a cornet section of six players, which includes Eb Soprano Cornet and five Bb cornets. Accompanying the six cornets are two baritones, three trombones, two euphoniums, Eb Bass, Bb Bass and three percussion. The main tune is introduced by the cornet section and written in a 3/4 jazz waltz style. As the piece develops, it moves out of 3/4 from time to time and expands on some of the rhythmic and melodic qualities of the original hymn tune.
