The New York Staff Band is pleased to announce the very first NYSB Composer Contest.
Below you will find a description of the guidelines, eligibility and submission requirements for the contest.

GENERAL INFORMATION

APPLICATION DEADLINE: All submissions must be received by 11:59PM on November 1,
2017.
ELIGIBILITY: The Competition is open to anyone, excluding current NYSB members.

WINNING PRIZE: The composer of the winning piece will get a $500 travel reimbursement
and full accommodation for a trip to the premiere performance in New York City in 2018. The
winning piece will also be recorded on the NYSB’s upcoming CD being released in March
2018.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS: Full brass band score and parts (Sibelius, Finale or PDF
formats only please); midi file; and application should be submitted to http://www.nysb.org/MusicMinistry/nysbcomposercontest/
or emailed to [email protected] by November 1, 2017.

ADJUDICATION: All submissions will be adjudicated by a panel from the USA Eastern
Territorial Music Department who will study each score and determine three finalists. The
NYSB will then perform the pieces (in rehearsal) and vote for the winner.

NOTIFICATION DATE: The winner will be announced December 1st, 2017.

WRITING GUIDELINES

-The piece should be written for full brass band scoring.
-The total length of the piece should not exceed 7:30 minutes.
-The piece may not have already received a premiere, or been published or recorded. In
addition, the piece should not be awaiting publication with any publisher.
-The piece should contain a Christian public domain (PD) song.

SUBMISSION

-All pieces must be sent by November 1, 2017 to [email protected] or uploaded at www.nysb.org/musicministry/nysbcomposercontest/
-All applicants must submit the following:
I. Full brass band score and set of parts (Sibelius, Finale or PDF formats only
please).
II. Midi file
III. Completed application form (online at http://www.nysb.org/MusicMinistry/nysbcomposercontest/).
