SUMMER BRASS

WHAT IS SUMMER BRASS?
This 6-week mission team will consist of a group of Christian young-adults (18 or older) gifted in brass and vocal performance.  They will be led by adult leaders who will provide spiritual and practical guidance.

WHY SUMMER BRASS?
The objective of this team will be to use brass and vocal performance and education to support the vision and mission of The Salvation Army. This would be accomplished through performing and teaching in the areas of brass, vocal and music theory at various music camps, conservatories, Kroc Centers and corps.   These teaching and performance opportunities serve youth that often do not get to see much outside of the inner city or usually are unable to attend because of lack of money.

HOW LONG IS THE COMMITMENT?
Six to seven weeks in the summer depending on the scheduling.

IS SUMMER BRASS FOR ME?
We always strive for excellence but would invite you to apply even if you are unsure of your abilities.  We are looking to form a fifteen member brass band of various instruments who are well qualified applicants on cornet, horn, baritone, trombone, euphonium, tuba and percussion.  If you love to play your instrument, spread the gospel through music and teach others, this is for you. You must be at least 18 years old and be active in your Corps or Church.

WILL I GET PAID FOR BEING INVOLVED IN THE MINISTRY?
Yes. A stipend is given in a lump sum in August.

SCHEDULE
The first days will be spent rehearsing at Territorial Headquarters preparing for the performance and teaching opportunities through the summer.  Following this time of intense preparation, the team will begin to travel throughout the territory.  The focus of this group throughout the summer will be to help in launching or enhancing music programs at the Kroc Centers.  Additional teaching opportunities will take place at various music camps, conservatories and corps.  Each Sunday the team will be involved in worship at a different Salvation Army Corps.  The average stay at each location will be 3-5 days.  One of the weeks for this team will be spent at Old Orchard Beach Camp Meeting where they would be involved in the OOB pier ministry and will perform at least one night at the pavilion. Full details of schedule will be available sometime in May.
